Fair use policy
How exactly does unlimited data in The Netherlands work? It might come in handy to know this before you close the deal. All mobile providers offer a fair use policy, though there are a few differences. Some providers are more generous, whilst others have a stricter policy.
All unlimited data plans offer you a daily data bundle. Let's say you get 10 GB a day. If you are almost out of data, you can manually upgrade it, usually with 2 GB at a time. You can do this for an unlimited amount of time. And a new day means a new 10 GB you can use.
Let's look at this table to see what provider offers the best fair use policy:
Provider |
Daily bundle | Manually upgrade with... |
Budget Mobiel |
4 GB | 1 GB |
KPN |
10 GB | 2 GB |
Vodafone |
10 GB | 2 GB |
Tele2 |
10 GB | 2 GB |
T-Mobile |
10 GB | 2 GB |
As you can see, there are big differences in the unlimited data offers. Keep this in mind when you order your new subscription.
Unlimited data abroad
Due to EU regulations, providers don't have to offer you the entirety of the unlimited data bundle when you travel to another (EU) country. This means you get a different data limit when you're abroad. This also applies to large data bundles (10 GB or more).
Again, the limits differ a lot per provider. Here you can see all the limits per provider:
Provider |
Limit in EU-countries |
Budget Mobiel |
17 GB |
KPN |
50 GB |
Vodafone |
40 GB |
Tele2 |
24 GB |
T-Mobile |
35 GB |
Conclusion: which provider should you choose?
In conclusion, here are all the providers and their offers for unlimited data, ranked by smallest to the best bundle:

Despite the name, unlimited data certainly has its limits.
If you don't want the hustle with manually having to upgrade your data each day, you can also choose a large data bundle. You just have to make sure not to exceed the limits:
